It’s a big world, where do we go from here?

Ever since Jean-François Carrey was a young boy he wanted to climb Mount Everest. On May 18th, 2006, not only did he fulfill his dreams, he also became the youngest Canadian to have climbed to the top of the world at 24 years old while obtaining his Commerce degree. JF’s passion for the arctic, mountains and rivers extends back to his youth when he was a member of Scouts Canada. As a Scout, he developed some of the skills necessary to achieve his dream. These skills proved useful when, at the age of 17, JF was a apprentice guide for Blackfeather, a wilderness adventure company, and guided on Canada’s most extraordinairy river, the Nahanni in the Northwest Territories.

All the while his job as a guide enabled him to acquire many unique experiences. He led a number of expeditions down the Mountain andSnake eiver in the Northwest Territories / Yukon, and also journeyed to Ellesmere Island and Baffin Island in Nunavut to trek and seakayak.

Having been at these immense place, JF found himself confident to kick start his dream. He enroled at the Telfer School of Management to gain valuable knowledge on how to organize his big projects. During his university years, he was also training for Mount Everest. He has successfully climbed Mount Imja Tse (6189m) in Nepal, Mount Aconcagua (6968m) in Argentina which is the highest peak on the American continent ,Mount McKinley, Alaska (6 300m), the highest mountain in North America, Mount Baker, USA and Pico de Orizaba, Mexico (5 636m).

In 2006, JF Carrey achieve his dream of climbing Mount Everest. On the summit he saw the sunrise on the horizon and he realized that it was not the 20 minutes that he spent on Top of the World which was his dream but rather the journey he took to get there. And now the journey continues.

With over 12 years of guiding experience, JF has guided expedition in the most remote, cold, extreme,beautiful but mostly big places our earth has to offer. He his Canada’s formost wilderness guide for the arctic and sub-arctic regions. A trusted guide for trekking and mountaineering in the Himalayas,Andes and Mexico’s Volcanos. He also specialize in arctic whitewater canoeing, seakayaking, trekking, marine safety/logistics and television production. He guided for the popular TV show Destination Nor’Ouest 1 and 2 for TVA and TFO which was nominated to 6 Gemini awards. Guiding international adventurers and helping them aquire the knowledge and realise their objectives and dreams.

JF also take his experiences to guide people, leaders, youth in thinking like a adventurer. From all over the world, he inspires them to embrace change. He speaks internationally on leadership and unveilling the perspective gained by leading expeditions in these immense and uncontrolable environment.
